Anyone have any clue as to how I could pull this off?
wow and flutter
I used to have an old copy of Metallica's black album that would warble, or wow, at quite a few spots after I'd listened to it a gazillion times. I'm not sure if it was because of the tape deck in my old van, or the tape itself, but there was a varied stretch in the pitches of certain songs that I thought sounded really cool. This wow effect on the ending guitar solo in Unforgiven and on Nothing Else Matters just added a really cool element to those songs. I'm wanting to reproduce this wow effect on my guitar and my bass.

I have a wah pedal, that's not what I'm looking for.
The actual effect that I'm going for, wow, is caused as I can best understand it, by nonuniform movement of the magnetic tape within a deck. It causes slow periodic deviations in the pitch and speed of the sound. Flutter is the same thing except alot faster. I'm wanting to go for a strong wow effect.
I've listened to some of the samples of some of the Electro-Harmonix line of pedals, namely the Worm and the Wiggler, that I think might work, but I can't really tell unless I'm able to sit down and really play with each of the pedals.
I suppose I need to find the right pedal, or combination of pedals, that allows for variant delays and deviance in the pitch to simulate the effect.
