Muting/Palm Muting

Description

Picking and fretting are two parts of the music making process.

Muting and Palm Muting are just as important, especially when playing through an amp at high levels.

Example 1 is string muting to prevent unwanted guitar noise. Anchor your hand with only one finger, your left ring (3rd) finger, which is fretting the note. That way you can have firm control over the note, but let your left index (1st) finger rest lightly over the strings not being played.

Example 2 is palm muting to get that chunky sound out of your amp. You can do steady palm muting, or you can pick the chord, then mute immediately after, really attack it, it depends on what your doing.

Playing clean and good control over your instrument is one of the first things you should master if you've just started playing.
