Amazing Grace

Hi everybody, this is Caren from Guitar Tricks and in this lesson I'll be teaching you the traditional song "Amazing Grace". This song is in 3/4 time and in the key of G.

The three basic major chords we'll be using here are open G, open C, and open D. I'll show you how to play these chords and how to move your fingers to shift between them, and also some advice on what to avoid so you can gain fluent finger independence.

Then I'll show you how I strum this song. I'm using my thumb and fingers, plucking the bass note with my thumb then strumming the upper strings with my fingertips in a "bass-strum" style. Don't play the low bass notes too hard, and just brush your fingers across the strings.

I'll play the song for you once through slowly, then we'll do a play along twice through with me singing. Have fun!
