Before we dig into all the great slide guitar playing on this song, it's important to note that a lot of the magic we hear on a song like this comes from the fact that it strikes the perfect balance between signature parts and improvisation. We have some very iconic licks and then those licks are bent and shaped spontaneously throughout the song! The guitar player would most likely never play it exactly the same ever again, but he'll still play around with those same signature parts, so it's recognizable. So for that reason, our goal today is not to meticulously memorize and recreate every little detail.

Instead we'll start out by studying the general tools that are being used. Then in the next lesson we'll dig into the signature licks, and finally we'll talk about how to be free and loose with these signature licks, like you hear it on this classic recording. So first let's check out the basic vocabulary!
