After the opening chorus we're into the first verse, and as always our acoustic guitar is the engine of the groove. The basic chord progression starts on a C#7 barre-chord shape. Because of the capo this results in the sound of an E major chord.

Then we're back to the D shape for 2 bars, the E shape for 2 bars and the A shape for 2 bars. Then that progression repeats, but instead of going back to A in the last 2 bars it hangs on E (V) for 2 extra bars, which builds a ton of tension going towards the chorus.
