One of the most intriguing elements about finger picking on acoustic guitar is the ability to weave melodies into your finger picking and effectively accompany yourself, while also playing the lead. Obviously this is an extensive topic, but in this tutorial we'll look at some of the simplest ways to work a basic melody into your fingerpicking. It's important to mention that we'll be drawing pretty heavily on the finger picking pattern from the previous tutorial, so if you're still struggling with the basic mechanics of that you may need to spend some extra time on it before this next step makes sense. But you can always try and see how it goes and then circle back to it if you find that it's necessary.
