Mike will show you the song’s 2 acoustic guitar layers. Guitar 1 is the main guitar part that drives the tune with some single note motifs and strong strumming. Guitar 2 adds some higher ornamentations in the intro and reintro sections.

The song opens with a melody that outlines the chords with arpeggios in the low register, while Guitar 2 plays a higher melody on top. The verse kicks in with Guitar 1 playing a boom chick pattern. The chorus changes key and also the rhythm of the song by switching to a bossa nova groove typical of Brazilian music. The verse and chorus are repeated a few times to make up the arrangement.

Any acoustic guitar is suitable to play this song, but one with a brighter tone will help cut through the mix a bit better.

In the following lessons, we’ll talk about arpeggios, boom chick strumming rhythms, open chords and barre chords, and a bossa nova groove. We are in the key of F major (and Eb major), with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 110 BPM.
