What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "Truckin'" as made famous by The Grateful Dead. This is a jam-band rock classic that features an eighth note swinging bluesy groove and a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitars.

This song features 4 guitar layers. Guitar 1 is an acoustic guitar that strums a steady foundation to the whole song. Guitar 2 plays bluesy riffs with a clean tone, while Guitar 3 is a lead guitar that plays tasty fills and licks throughout the tune. Guitar 4 is an additional acoustic guitar that plays a cool lick in the intro.

The tune starts out with the guitars playing overlapping blues licks that ramp into the main swinging groove. The chorus uses a I, IV, V chord progression, but not in a typical bluesy way. The verse sections vamp on the I chord with a steady blues groove.

There is also a bridge section that is visited twice in the arrangement, introducing some new chords and odd time signatures for a nice contrast.

To play this tune using only one guitar, simply play Guitar 2 all the way through.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about eighth note bluesy swing feel, muted blues diad riffing, barre chords, and some killer bluesy leads and fills. We are in the key of E major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 126 BPM.
