What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "Touch Of Grey" as made famous by The Grateful Dead. This is an 80's era rock classic that features a nice blend of acoustic and electric guitars.

This song features 2 guitar layers. Guitar 1 is an acoustic guitar that strums a steady foundation to the whole song. Guitar 2 is a clean electric guitar that largely doubles the acoustic, but also adds in some single note approaches and a very melodic guitar solo.
The tune starts out with a simple chord progression that establishes the groove of the tune. The verse comes in with a different chord progression played with the same approach. The chorus continues the vibe, with Guitar 2 adding a cool chromatic single note riff in between the vocal phrases.

There are 2 instances of a bridge that happen in the arrangement, with Guitar 1 holding down a new chord progression that adds a minor tonality, while Guitar 2 outlines the progression with some single note lines. Guitar 2 also gets a very upbeat and melodic solo that plays off the chord shapes.

To play this tune using only one guitar, simply play Guitar 2 all the way through.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about barre chords and open chords, syncopation, and arpeggio based soloing. We are in the key of B major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 160 BPM.
