I wish I had a dime for every time I said to one of my students, "You are out of position!" If you learn to play in position, then your accuracy, tone, control and dynamics will be much easier to access. So, let’s get clear on the proper position!

1. Rest your thumb on the 6th string. As we move forward the thumb controls the 6th, 5th and 4th strings.
2. Rest your 3rd finger on the 1st string.
3. Rest your 2nd finger on the 2nd string.
4. Rest your 1st finger on the 3rd string.

You are looking for a relaxed, oval shaped hand, with your thumb slightly bent and out in front of your fingers.
