Let's add D and E to our collection of memorized power chord locations.

Notice that E (which is also the note of the open sixth string) falls at the 12 fret, where there is likely double dots on the neck of your guitar (or some other special marking of some sort).

The twelfth fret is where everything starts over. The open 6th string is E. The 6th string played at the 12th fret is also E, one octave higher.

In other words, every note that exists in music can be found somewhere along that low E string, between the first fret and the twelfth fret.
