I'll teach this song in a made easy arrangement using an acoustic guitar, but any guitar is suitable to learn the song in this way. We'll break the parts down to simple open chords, and add an easy strumming pattern so you can jam along with the track. We'll also learn to strum at a few different dynamic levels, from quiet to loud, as it follows the story of the lyrics. This is a great song to learn how to build the dramatic story arc of a pop-rock song.

The arrangement features two distinct sections, verse and chorus, each with its own chord progression. Many of the chords are open chords; but there are a few barre chords that are required, which can be challenging for a beginner. In addition to the full barre chord shapes I'll also show simplified versions of these chords as an alternative. That said, I urge you to attempt and practice the full version of the chords since barre chords are a cornerstone of the guitarist's toolkit.

If you're up for a challenge, I'll also teach you how to arpeggiate the verse chord progression to make it sound a little more like the recording.

Any guitar tuned to standard tuning is suitable to play this song!

In the following lessons, we'll talk about a simple strumming pattern, open chords, barre chords, and dynamics. We are in the key of B minor with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 74 BPM.
