What's up, it's Mike from Guitar Tricks, teaching you "In And Out Of Love" as made famous by Bon Jovi. This is a classic 80s arena rocker that features plenty of power pop crunch guitar riffing, single note lines, and killer leads.

There are 2 guitar layers in this tutorial. Guitar 1 is a crunch guitar that plays all the great riffs throughout the tune. Guitar 2 is a lead guitar that plays the higher octave of the main riff's single note melody, as well as the raging guitar solo.

The tune kicks off with a muscular riff alternating with a simple melody. The verse has lots of classic 80s pop metal moves, with triads and suspensions tossed in between the pumping eighth notes. The pre-chorus uses open chords and even some whammy bar work to setup the transition to the chorus. The chorus goes back to the intro riff, where the single note melodies play call and response with the vocals.

The bridge brings in a new riff that sets up the transition to the guitar solo. The solo is full of classic rock tricks, double-stops, fast legato ascending runs, tremolo picked lines and rocked up blues licks. The interlude after the solo brings the dynamic level down only to build it back up for a big finish!

For the single guitar performance of this song, you'll play Guitar 1 throughout the song, switching to Guitar 2 for the solo.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about power chords, triads, dynamics, palm muting, and some awesome rock lead guitar techniques. We are in the key of A major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 130 BPM.
