There are 5 guitar layers in this tutorial. A 12 string acoustic kicks off the song with an iconic arpeggiated riff that appears in all the verse sections. A clean electric guitar adds some ringing harmonics and arpeggiated chords. A crunch guitar sets the chorus sections on fire, and two additional lead guitars add some melodic harmonized leads. All of these guitars appear throught the tune creating a rich tapestry of sound that became an industry standard of how to multi-layer guitars in the studio.
The verse sections feature a low dynamic with a 12 string acoustic playing an arpeggiated riff using open chords. The pre chorus builds the dynamic with a clean electric arpeggiating chords while harmonizing lead guitars blaze a vocal-like melody. The chorus comes in powerfully with an iconic riff played by a crunch electric guitar, and the solo section raises the bar with some melodic harmonized leads.
In the following lessons, we'll talk about open chords and barre chords, chord arpgeggiation, dynamics, harmonics, guitar layering, and harmonized leads. We are in the key of D, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 109 BPM.
I find it quite easy (so far!) to navigate, and found the "where do I start" to be very helpful! I'm getting there!!
