Willie Dixon's style of guitar playing has influenced countless of other guitar players; not just blues purists but also people that have gone on to bridge genres and different styles of guitar playing. This solo in particular is filled with licks that can apply to any standard blues progression.

We're doing a lot of mixing major and minor tonalities which gives a really interesting and "longing" feel to some of the licks. We're playing a lot of pentatonic licks but also a lot of licks that are very reminiscent of vocal melodies a blues singer would go for. This is something that's very hard to reproduce in a natural way, but Willie Dixon makes it seem very easy and a lot of the phrases in this solo are well worth looking into more than once.

If you are serious about building a well rounded library of true blues licks, this solo is well worth checking out phrase by phrase. There's all sorts of cool, emotive things going on here: bends of all types, slides, ghost notes and raking, switching pickups, etc. Really great stuff!
