All right, let's look at this sneaky first verse! We're using our simple open chords shapes and basic 3/4 strumming pattern; the trick is in how long to play the chords in each phrase.

We have five phrases or "lines" of varying length. Our first line is what I call "normal"; it's 4 bars long and has 2 bars of E, then a bar of C and a bar of D.

Our next line contains 5 bars, with 3 bars of E, then a bar each of C and D. Our third phrase also has 5 bars, playing 3 bars of E again but then a bar of D, then a bar of our A chord.

Our fourth line in this verse is also 5 bars long; we play 2 bars of our E major chord, but then we make an interesting shift and play a bar of E minor, then back to a C for a bar and a D for a bar.

The fifth phrase is more "normal", playing a bar of C, a bar of D, then 2 bars of E (like our intro).
