In this lesson, we'll look at the rhythm guitar part for the intro. This part really sets the feel for the whole song, so let's check it out.

We start on an F# playing what is often referred to as the "Chuck Berry" rhythm. The index finger is on the 2nd fret of the 6th string and the ring finger is on the 4th fret of the 5th string. Then, the pinky will alternate in on the 6th fret of the 5th string. What makes this version unique is that we're really accenting the off beats. To bring this feel out even more, try playing focusing on the upstrokes with the right hand.

Next, we go to the same pattern over an A chord. We can use the open A on the 5th string as our bass note, then add the 2nd fret (index finger) and the 4th fret (pinky) of the 4th string as our upper notes. The pattern is the same as we did over F#.

Then, we wind up doing the same thing over an E chord. This will be very similar to what we just did over the A except we're going to move down one set of strings. Use the open E on the 6th string as your bass, then add the 2nd fret (index finger) and the 4th fret (pinky) of the 5th string as our upper notes. We play the full bar just as on the others, then we play the first half of the pattern in the next bar before hitting a quick B chord twice with an up-down stroke.
