One of the primary functions of the capo is convenience! Every fret you move your capo up or down on the neck is equal to 1/2 step.

In this song, we capo the first fret and play using chord shapes from the key of C; the capo allows us to play in the key of Db but use these simple open chord shapes without playing barre chords. Using barre chords would never give us the same tone and feeling of open "first position" chords.

With a good hand full of chords and a capo you can play in virtually any key with comfort and ease. I tell my students the capo is the picker's friend!
