Eric Barnett here for Guitar Tricks teaching you to play "Whiskey in the Jar" as made famous by Metallica.

This tune is a classic rock tune with pounding rhythms, Irish jig influenced leads & bone crunching tone!

In order to play this song we need to tune the guitar a whole step down! Every string is detuned 2 frets. So, instead of the standard tuning pitches, we get, low to high: D, G, C, F, A, D.

The rhythm guitar tone is a humbucker guitar in bridge position through a medium to high gain amp; for example, a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier. For the lead guitar parts you'll can add an octaver for that interesting effect. It creates a doubled part that sounds an octave lower than every note you play. But, it's not necessary to have!
