The acoustic guitar lays down a solid rhythm foundation in the verses using a distinct strumming pattern. Putting the capo on the 2nd fret allows us to play in the key of E using D, G, and A open chord shapes, and is a very common practice in country music.

The strumming is steady 8th notes, and I recommend all downstrokes to keep things consistent sounding. Note how the strums accent the 1 and and-of-1, as well as 3 and the and-of-3 by opening up the palm muting. This gives the part some shape and texture, keeping things interesting for the listener.

The dynamic of the verse starts low, and builds slowly towards the last 2 bars of the verse, when it ramps up to bring us into the high dynamic of the chorus.
