We've already used the terms licks and riffs quite a bit throughout this course, but since people often confuse those two terms, let's explore the difference in this lesson. In short, the riff is an instrumental section of the song that typically stays the same throughout, whereas the lick is something you play around with - typically for a solo or as a fill.
