One of the most important rhythmic techniques is the ability to embrace repetition. Rhythm is by nature repetitive, and accordingly we will be playing the same strum pattern through out the song.

This song is in 4/4 time, which means for every bar or measure we will be counting up to four and then starting over again. Play the bass notes with a slightly rounded thumb, followed by 2 down strums made by letting your fingernails/tips brush down from the bass you just played.

That last up strum can be hard to accomplish at first, so feel free to skip it to get started. Ultimately it is that last up strum on beat 4+ that gives this strum its groove, so make sure you get it in at some point.
