Easy Embellishment Exercises

Now let's take a look at some ways to practice your basic open chord embellishments with the metronome. You may be comfortable enough with the embellishments to play the examples of the tutorial, but let's say you run into a riff down the road that uses the same embellishments at a much higher tempo- then you will need to know how to build the necessary speed.

I hope you've seen the potential in this kind of exercising. Once again, the idea is to temporarily bypass the musical part of your brain and purely work on the mechanics so that once you return to making music, you do this with new strength and capabilities. The exercises aren't the most fun things in the world, but being able to be spontaneous and free when you make music is! And this is one of the shortest ways to get to that point.

Once you get comfortable with doing this, you don't have to sit and stare into the wall while you do it- you can watch TV or even have a conversation while you do it. So have fun with it and I'll see you in the next chapter!
