So far we've covered the use of open chords, barre chords and power chords in rock, and hopefully you are now pretty comfortable using these. Now it's time to look at some ways to spice up the sound of these basic chords, so that you're not just playing the "meat and potatoes" the whole time.

We'll do this by adding a finger/adding a note to our basic open chords, which will change the sound just enough to add some cool variation. This concept is often referred to as "embellishing", and there is no limit to how far you can eventually take it.

But today we're going to keep it simple and look at some easy but super useful ways to add a little extra spice to your basic open chords. So let's get started!
