An acoustic guitar lays down the foundation of the song starting in the intro. You are playing steady 8th note strums, with one quarter note strum on the 3rd beat of the measure. This is a consistent strumming pattern you'll be playing for most of the tune. Approach this part by keeping your strumming even and relaxed.

Fret the D and A chords using open chord shapes, and the F#m and G using barre chord shapes. Note the use of the sus4 on the A chord to add a bit of flavor to the progression.

Watch out for the variation in the chord progression that happens leading into the key change. Instead of going to the A, you'll drop back down to the F#m then switch to the A/B chord to lead nicely into the open E chord.
