Let's make your picking hand work a little harder!
The trick with keeping your funk licks and rhythm tight, despite all the musical space often wanted in funk, is to keep your hand moving above the strings when you're not playing any notes.
With this lick for example, it's much easier to play in time if you keep your picking hand moving in 16th notes. This will make you play the first hit with a downstroke, and the second hit with an upstroke.
Remember to start slowly, and gradually raise the tempo as you feel appropriate. You'll find slowed down backing tracks at the end of the tutorial.
