GUITAR: I'm using a Les Paul style guitar in this tutorial, but any guitar with a humbucker pickup in the bridge position will work great here. The humbucker will give you the power and clarity you'll need to pound these riffs out.

AMP: Any modern hi-gain tube amplifier is the desirable choice for this tune. You'll need to dial in a heavy gain crunch setting, and you could either roll down your volume and clean up the sound to play the quiet verse parts, or channel switch to a clean channel for those sections. Alternatively, you could set your amp for a cleaner sound, then kick in a distortion pedal for the massive crunch parts. Check out the settings I used for these lessons:

AMP: (Modern Hi-Gain Model) Drive: 55% Bass: 45% Mid: 75% Treble: 65% Presence: 75%

Also note the change in tone for the bridge section. I switched on a fuzz pedal to give the crunch tone that nasty "speaker is tearing apart" quality.

FUZZ PEDAL: Drive: 100% Tone: 50%

Be sure to have your guitar tuned down to dropped-B. I recommend thicker gauge strings to avoid tuning problems.
