The verses are also played over the I-IV-V-I progression with a two measure tag line at the end of each lyric which makes for a 10 measure phrase. Each of the three verses has a unique collection
of fills and sound effects. Let's check out verse 1.

There are four 10-measure phrases. In the first phrase, guitar 1 begins by doubling the bass for the first eight measures, and then plays a two measure fill. The second phrase is identical except that there is a lower fill at the end.

The third phrase is the same as the first and the fourth phrase is the same as the second but with a few passing tones into the B. Notice that the fills alternate high-low-high-low.

Guitar 2 plays an E6 voicing over the ending fills in all but the third phrase where it simulates tires skidding in response to the lyric "tires fair". The second statement of the melody enters here.
