The tune opens with a dreamy arpeggiated motiff fingerpicked on an acoustic guitar. This is the main riff that provides the chord structure to all the verses in the song. Pay special attention to the start of the tune! Guitarist Chris DeGarmo actually plays the main riff in a 15/16 time signature, effectively dropping the last 16th note from every bar. He switches to 4/4 in the last bar before the vocal starts. From there, it's 4/4 except for every 3rd bar which he plays in 15/16. Once we modulate to the C chord, it's 4/4 all the way.
