Let's go over some of the basics of fingerpicking you'll need to play this song. The tune opens with a dreamy arpeggiated guitar, fingerpicked on an acoustic. This provides the main riff of the song, and outlays the chord progression that occurs throughout the song in the verses. The fingerpicking pattern is pretty much the same all through the tune, so once you have this you have a good portion of the song.

Where you place your fingers will change the tone you get out of your acoustic. Up near the bridge, you'll get a brighter sort of tone. The fingerpicked rhythm is one 8th note, and the rest of the phrase is 16 notes.

In the next lesson, we'll look at how to play the whole riff using this fingerpicking pattern.
