Here is a cool concept called Stick Guitar. What we're doing is playing down in the lower register, arpeggiating, which would often copy the bass line.

You can come up with all sorts of variations for this, but you'll be using different arpeggio shapes when in this register. Try throwing a downbeat in once in a while, too. Try some muting, and just remember to experiment -- figure out with how this technique is different from others and how you can use it in your own music.
