Lesson 4: Space and Phrases

In this video, we are going to look at another lick that utilizes many of BB Kings' signature sounds. These include the root-to-root slide, his chicks-n-fills, as well as his great use of space between the phrases. At the end of the lesson we will jam together using this phrase along with some ideas of your own. Let's play!

Hi Edward, They are pretty much what we call a "quick 4" blues progression with a slightly jazzy bit at the end. Check out this lesson on Blues chords: https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson/14430 It's mostly the same chord functions, except that in the Jam Track, you go to the IV in bar 2 and back to I in bar 3. In bar 9, substitute the IIm7 and in 10 use V7. The turnaround in 11 and 12 is I IV I V, two beats apiece. Don't go by the red bar numbers, since there was one measure of music before the progression. In Bb it's Bb7 Eb7 Bb7 Eb7 Bb7 Cm7 F7 Bb7 Eb7 Bb7 F7. I've added spaces to represent two bars.
