Welcome back to Music Theory grade 2. This time around, a test to make sure that all the grade 2 material from the first five parts has sunk in. If you need to refresh your memory, you can check out the rest of grade 2 by visiting the links on this page.


And here comes the test! Answers for each question appear below the question in white text, so if you highlight the section below the question, you'll find out if you were right:

1)Which time signature are the following pieces in?



(a)Give the meaning of the following (the answers follow):

f - Loud

The symbol beneath bar 3 – Getting Louder

The symbols over the notes in bar 5 – Legato, play smoothly

'-' in bar 8 – Accent

(b)This piece is in Bb Major.

(i) In which bar can all the notes of the tonic triad be found? Answer: Bar 6

(ii) Name a bar in which all notes are played staccato. Answer: Bar 7

(iii) Give the time name ( minim, half note etc) of the longest note. Answer: Dotted Crotchet

(iv) Give the letter name of the highest note. Answer: Eb

(v) Which of these means "slow down a little:" poco rall or a tempo? Answer: poco rall
