my guitar has a humbucker and 2 single coils but I want to know what the pick up selector does and what pickups it selects thanx

Its usually like this:

1. Bridge
2. Bridge & Middle (out-of-phase)
3. Middle
4. Middle & Neck (out-of-phase)
5. Neck

Just to clarify, the 1. on Lordathestrings' list is when the switch is furthest back from the neck, and 5 is when the switch is closest to the neck.
