A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one
the first step is admiting it
I am a guitaraholic. I just love to buy new guitars.. Just bought a Ibanez AEL20 Acoustic electric.. ( My wife is going to kill me!!!!!) Sounds great. Anybody else have one of these. If so how do you like it...

I have two mates each of whom own an Ibanez Ael, think they own 30's but not sure...they are gorgeous guitars...beautiful flamed maple backs and sides..
I too am a gearhead...I love gear, guitars and all things related...and of course, I have constant GAS (an Ibanez Thermion is making a strong bid to be the next victim of my syndrome)

The depth of my addiction is >documented< elsewhere on this forum.
I've sold two Garnet 412 cabs, a guitar, an amp, and a tube preamp, which leaves me with only 9 guitars, 3 amps, and 1 Garnet 412 cab! :o

My addiction (axeoholism) has become expensive lately.
Currrent axes in my collection
Ibanez Jem "Bad Horsey"
Ibanez Prestige custom
Gibson Les Paul Historic Goldtop '57 reissue
Ernie Ball Music Man Petrucci 7 string
Unfortunately... it's my penchant for rack gear and software that gets me into more trouble with my missus...

For me the software is really easy to hide in the closet cause I own a computer company, But the PA, Speakers, Mic Stands, Mics, Bass and Bass Amp Two two electrics one being a Schecter Classic and a Berringer amp I just picked up in the last 45 days and this Ibanez AEL20. And the sweet little Missus SAYS: WHAT THE HECK DO YOU NEED ALL THIS FOR!!!!!!!
I say in a very soft sqeaky voice, looking down at the floor "They make diffrent sounds....

Hello. My name is Eric, and I have GAS. I have had GAS for several years now. I am often refered to as a "gear whore/slut" and/or a "tone whore." This evil addiction has cost me lots and lots of money, sleepless nights, hearing loss, and a bad back. At the moment, I have 3 acoustics, 2 electrics, 3 amps, 1 Marshall 4x12 cab, a rack setup, and about 7 or so pedals. But, any of that gear is liable to be changed/altered/replaced at any give moment. I need help! My addiction to gear, and never ending search for the perfect tone has greatly hindered my guitar playing. I spend too much time searching for the right tone, and not nearly enough time practicing my playing. How can I beat this? Is there some kind of 12 step program out there? :o

Yeah, take 12 steps away from your computer. :D

but if I take 12 steps away from my computer, then I'll be in my kitchen, and there's a MF catalogue on the kitchen table. Oh man! I'm screwed! :(

Sounds like you may need a third party mediator to help hide the MF catalogues. :D
It wouldn't matter if you didn't have any catalogues at all though 'cause GAS is a disorder that is only treatable through, that's right Gear Aquisition. No other way around it man. :D

There is no permanent cure...you can only treat the syndrome temporarily, by buying more gear!
how long the treatment lasts varies, but for better results, stay away from music stores, interent sites, catalogues and other musicians...as soon as a new product catches your eye, the gas comes back, bigger and better!

yes actually, this is the 6strngs method to getting over gas
1: admit you have a problem, this is always the first step to every successful rehabilitation process
2: admit that the problem is actually a problem.. in other words, you have to have a desire to get rid of gas
3: hide the catalogs, you don't need useless temptation
4: stick to the cheapest guitar you have, and play that guitar, and only that guitar until the only way to improve the tone is to improve your playing
5: give all the rest of your gear to me, because I want it
6: give me all your money, so that you have nothing to buy more gear with
7: who needs the other steps? you're problem is solved and I'm a richer man! :D
failing that, just do what I did and spend all your money on a car, so you have nothing left to buy gear with.
anyways, my name is nathan, I've been playing guitar for about 18 months, and have had gas for about 12. I have two guitars, three amps, 4 pedals, though no recording gear :( my wishlist is long enough to stretch the entire length of my street, and I wish I was being paid more so I could actually start getting some of the stuff off my wishlist

I know this thread is old, but my problem is even larger  I have only been playing for about 10 months and have accumulated 5 guitars, 3 amps, 2 keyboards, and a crap load of pedals, processors, monitors, recording hard/software...etc.......but now I have branched off into something totally insane! I am now starting to buy and give gear to OTHER PEOPLE!! I own an Auto Parts Store and so far I have bought 2 Amps for my manager, given him 1 amp of mine, bought a brand new Epi LP for one of my good customers who really loved mine, bought a Korg AX3000G for one of my drivers who is in a band called Decrepit.......'cause the lead guitarist liked mine so much....please help me :( I cant stop!!

I think you may have just found one of the few problems you shouldn't come GT for advice about. Especially with these other guys up there hanging around! :D
