im having trouble doing bursts of speed in my soloing that are much faster then the rhythm. It seems out of time with the music. Any pointers on how to solo with tempo changes? and still be in time?

Practice WITH A METRONOME! I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!

He's right. Practice with a metronome. Stick with one tempo and perfect quarter notes, eighth notes, 16th notes, triplets, then once you get that down flawlessly (perfect technique), move up to a higher speed. Then, when it comes time to solo, you can effortless use whatever speed you want comfortably, without sounding off rhythm
