Say, is it possible to use any wood type besides the conventional well known ones e.g. maple, mahogany, ash etc...

I know using different wood will affect the sound produced and theres physics involved with the vibrations within the wood. But just curious cos I'm thinking of a getting a custom body with unique wood type just for fun Big Grin

You can make a guitar body out of just about anything! Whether you like the result, or not, comes down to personal taste. Use the search feature (icon at the top of the page) and type in "wood" as the keyword. There's been a lot of discussion on this.

Fender made an experimental Strat out of granite. No, really. It had a special stand that held it up so it could be played. Apparently, it didn't have much to offer in the way of tone, but the sustain was amazing!

Anyway, do some research. I was serious about that search keyword. The neck and fingerboard materials are just as important as the body - maybe even more important.

Good luck!

material

I'll add my bit of cleverness now: I once saw a review in Guitarist magazine of a guitar which actually had no body at all....it was every part that makes a guitar held together in the right places....just without the body....and they said it was nice to play!

Sorry thats a bit vague....I'll see if I can track down its manufacturer...
