Hi,

I have problems with chordes where I should mute some strings. For example at D minor. I can mute low E string but my thumb hurts when I mute the A string. Do I have to mute the silent strings at chords or I can play them without strumming them, please?

Hi there,

You may try to mute them with your thumb, but I think the best way to do it, is to simply ignore those two muted strings and not strum them at all. That way you won't have move your thumb around. Check out these diagrams on the D minor chord: https://www.guitartricks.com/chords/D-chord/min

For the strings with an "x" on them, try your best to ignore them, or mute them with your strumming hand instead of your fretting hand.

When you are beginning to play guitar you work so hard to finger the chords without producing dead strings. Then you get better and you have to work on muting to produce the same dead tones. They call this progress.... Irony bites.
