How Long To Finish Each Level

I am about 75% through the beginner fundamentals level 1 and have been playing for a little over 3 weeks. Just curious how long it takes most people to finish each level. I know this is different for different people, but just trying to get a sense. Thanks

I completed fundamentals 1 in about a month. I plan to take at least two months on fundamentals 2 as it gets into scales, plus I’m playing simple songs as part of my practice routine. Still have work to do on changing chords.

I took my time, I am about a third of the way through rock 1 and i've been on here since July last year, so about 8 months! Got no time.

I need to win the lottery!

Well, I realized I wasn't quite as far along as I thought. I breezed through the melodies and got to chords and got a dose of reality. E minor was obviously a piece of cake, but I can't get my fingers to figure out D major. I feel like its going to be a little more difficult from here on out!

OMG, I’m so slow been on here about 2 months only 7% through fundamentals 1.[br]It's the coordination thing so frustrating.

I thought the D major was hard, but now C major is harder! Ugggh! Its seems like I will never be able to just naturally make these chords.

Depending on how much you can practise each day and how often a week, it will vary from person to person.

Personally, with one hour of practice each day, I calculate with a whole week for a chapter of each course.

[br]Certainly, Fundamentals 1, consists of a theory block (i.e. Chapter 1) that can be simply learnt during the course of an afternoon. But as far as chords are concerned, unless you have prior knowledge, give yourself a week time to practice this very concept until you can play it without thinking about it.

i am 50% of the way through guitar fundamentals 1. its took me 3 months to get this far. i would like to know how well should i know the melodies before moving on? i have the basic idea but playing along is hard to do.

I tried to get where I was comfortable playing along with most of the melodies before I moved on. There were a few parts where I would have difficulties, but for the most part I felt like I had it down before I moved on to chords.

The amount of time it takes to learn all this new stuff is totally different for every single person! There is no such thing as how long it “should” take you to get through the Fundamentals Course, or to master any particular skill.

As as long as you stay true to the process, don’t weigh yourself down with negative self-judgement about how long it is taking to learn new things, you are right on track.

Love the learning process and the new discoveries - and take all the time you need.

I don't this is going to happen for me. Not only can I not switch chords fast enough, I can't strum in time either. I'm beyond frustrated.

Right now, I'm limiting myself to 30 minutes of playing (plus whatever extra there is in the decriptive videos). 30 minutes seems to be the point where my fingers start feeling it. Good thing I'm on the simple chords so far. I can handle one finger! (I fear the complex chords are coming... ;) )

30 minutes is perfect! Bravo!

Started F1 six weeks ago and about 60% completed. I have consciously paced myself as I know from experience that I am a slow learner. Enjoying it very much and making real progress.

Have taken Lisa's advice (and of others): leave the guitar out so you walk past it daily and practice regularly rather than binge practice. A guy on You-tube recommended commiting to only 5 mins each day - then you won't get the guilts if that is all you can fit in, but generally you're 5 mins will always end up turning into 30 mins!

This, but have a focus, purpose, plan.

Otherwise it's tempting to just pick up and play what you know, which certainly equates to revision and reinforcement, but too easy to inadvertantly become lackadaisical permitting the habit to interfere with progress in tackling a new challenge/lesson.

Just wanted to say to those struggling with the open chords, don't forget that every single guitatrist has gone thorugh the same thing!

It's easy to forget that everyone is a beginner at some point and it can feel like you'll never get it, but with practice and perseverance you too will experience the satisfaction of clearly ringing chords. Open chords on a nice acousitc guitar are a thing of beauty!

I have been at it for about six weeks, and have gotten 43% of the way through Guitar Fundamentals One. As Lisa says, every single person is different. Some things are quick for me (in my case I have a musical background), but some things, like actually PLAYING the guitar, come v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y to me. For instance, just now I am learning Lisa's tune 'Darling Destination', and my progresss has slowed to a crawl, as I am not doing super well wirth cleanly changing from chord to chord all through the song. I don't intend to get as good at it as Lisa is before moving on to the next lesson, because that would slow me to a glacier pace, but I want to be in the ballpark, at least. It's so great that the videos can be slowed down and then gradually brought up to tempo-- a lifesaver!
