So what's your opinion on them, love them? Hate them? Don't care? Personally they are my favorite band, also what genre would you ascribe them to I've always said progressive metal but people always seem to resist that, thing is just because it doesn't sound like Dream Theater doesn't mean it isn't progressive and in fact trying to sound like DT is regressive because its already been done, and tool definitely has experimented, in my opinion with success, anyway, opinions?

I find them to be boring. I can respect their talent, but their CD's just seem to drag on. Like a mild 9 Inch Nails it seems. Not mild in talent at all, but just in energy sometimes.

They are definitely NOT Metal though. I'd just call them progressive rock.

They have talent for sure. but I agree with hunter, not my cup of tea. I like more upbeat party rock.

I've started getting into Tool over the past year or so. It's not something I want to listen to all the time, but when I'm in the mood, it definitely hits the spot. Of Maynard's 3 bands, Tool is definitely my favorite. Although I do really enjoy Puscifer's newest album too.

Hands down favorite Tool song ever is their cover of No Quarter.

God I love that cover, they respect its timelessness by not completly messing with it but I feel they add their own character to it, Thanks for all the replies guys!

A good friend of mine is a total tool freak, but Ihave to say that I am not that much into their music, I also don't think that is is metal (which is not a bad thing) but I really acknowledge their talent an creativity!

I am a Tool fan, and I am getting more and more into it. Not only the music but I am fascinated by Maynard and his views on music ... and life. I recomend "A perfect Union of Contrary things", his biography. Good read weather you are a fan or not. [br][br]I agree: Tool is beyond metal. They have layers deeper than that. Hard to pinpoint, and that is the thing I like about them the most.
