I bought a cheap classical guitar when I was 12 and tried teaching myself for 8 years, but seeing as I've made very little progress due to my lack of consistancy all this time, I really hope this subscription makes me take it seriosuly for once.

How often do you all practice? For how long?

Hello and welcome

Very similar story for many of us here. Last January I started learning how to play the guitar I bought 40 years ago!

I practice an hour each morning.

Good luck with your studies.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Probably an hour per day. Sometimes two.

Best of luck to you.

Lately I only get about half an hour of practice every day. Work has been grueling and I am just too tired by the time I can play my guitar. Ideally I like to do two 45 minute practice sessions.

It takes as long as it takes unless you quit - then it takes forever and you will never get there.

I don't have a set practice schedule. I pick it up whenever I can, but I work ten hour days driving a gas delivery truck which is grueling most of the week so don't get much practice in during then, but on the weekends I make up for it. I usually play till my fingertips start to hurt then take breaks throughout the day. This week I'm on vacation so with no place to go due to pandemic I'm making up for lost time.

I'm ok with this as I don't place too high of an expectation on myself. This hobby is for me so I learn things at whatever time it takes. I'm more of a backporch strummer/picker type of player so my practice routine involves going over lessons from previous weeks, along with spider leg exercises, chord progressions, bass line runs, and then I switch to fingerpicking. I play the songs (ok badly) from the lessons and I play some tracks off youtube.

My practice times can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours. Again with lots of breaks.

Moe

The best advice I got was just pick up your guitar everyday even if you just noodle around. Don't get hung up on how long you practice. Just apply yourself everyday to a few lessons and get them down.

Good luck!

recently bought a guitar about 8 weeks back, having tried a few free online/youtube videos i give this site a go, even though i dont practice every day(3 or 4 days a week) i have made more progres in the last few weeks as a beginner, what i like to do is watch each lesson before i even pick up the guitar and then when i understand what the lesson entails i watch the lesson again and follow along with the guitar in hand after that i would spend 20 minutes or so on my own practing what i've just learnt. hope this suggestion helps

That's great! Our instructor Anders Mouridsen often recommends that during some sections of his lessons. Congratulations on your progress!
