hey - what's the difference between chromatic and [i forget the name of the other type of tuner]?

i have a program on my computer that acts as a tuner for my electric when i plug it in, but it isn't as precise as it could be. also, i then have to tune my acoustic with my electric.

should i get a tuner? what's the best kind - the one with the needle, or the LED displays?

Thanks for your help, guys.

A chromatic tuner will allow you to tune any string to any note within the tuner's octave range, so it's a necessitly for alternate & dropped tunings. For example, if you wanted to tune to Drop D down a half step (Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb), a chromatic tuner would pick up the notes. With a regular auto tuner, you can't do that, because they only tune you to standad tuning. Withot a chromatic, you have to rely more on your ear for alternate tunings.

I really like the Korg ca-20 tunes from A0 all the way to B7. Very accurate and it's only like 20 bucks.

Buy any tuner that says "Korg" on it.

Korg makes a pretty good tuner, but if you want a tuner that does the job effectively and doesn't cost much, get a Fender cali-clear ag-6. I bought mine for $17 but i've seen it at $12 recently.
