power amps tube/solidstate
Hey everyone, i'm looking into getting a new power amp for my rig... I'm looking at a marshall 8008 right now, because it's very affordable, but do you think i should hold out for a tube power amp like the 50/50 or a mesa/boogie? I'm not trying to imitate anybody with my sound, trying to get something all my own, and from what i understand most of this will come from my pre-amp and effects.

What is the difference between tube and solid-state amps anyways? Sorry to respond to a question with another question, but I guess they're sorta intertwined.

tube amps run on... well, tubes =)
solid state amps use transistors...
it's generally agreed that tube amps are better (usually sound better...) but i figured i'd ask and see what people thought.
