ok i'm gettin quite sick of E7/9# thingie
and i thought there must be more playable chords for blues, now i dont want to learn the whole theory for jazz, but rather things that will listen somewhat like SRV or other people in the style, so any suggestions which chord should i learn?

Really i don't know how many chords you know?
Plus if you know how to use substitution chords?
Heres an exsample of useing a 9th chord in the place,
of 2 7th chords in the key of A .
Now if were playing a basic blues progression in A and were,
useing A7 D7 E7 for the progression we can use E9 D9 ,
over D7 and E7 .

D9
E[---------5------------]
B[---------5------------]
G[---------5------------]The Root note is D and;
D[------4---------------]its on the 5th string.
A[--------5-------------]
E[----------------------]
1 2 3

This chord is moveable so if you move up 2 frets you have E9 ................................
you can use dominant 9ths 11ths 13ths m9ths m7b5s ectect; When playing Blues.I also use alot of octave styles in my blues and jazz like useing the index and pinky finger.I played in alot of 3 piece groups where you,
had to play the chords plus the licks to keep the band sounding full...

Its great that you brought this subject up now mabee we can hear from alot more poeple about useing Substitution
chords..............
P:S A good book on Blues substitution chords could also,
help you .I used the Mickey baker jazz substitution chord,
book when started out years ago. Then i had the chance to,
to get around some great blues & jazz guitarests so i stole alot,
from them...............................lucky i guess.

Sorry about mis-spelling-> substitution.
Assuming a student knows all the standard chord voicings,
or chords.
I'll just try to put this in layman terms.
Substitution means replaceing a standard chord with,
another chord but spicing it up with a more advanced,
chord,an exsample like using a G9th in place of a standard G7 chord.

Standard G7 chord G9th inside Knuckle chord
E[-1---------] E[---x--------]
B[-0---------] B[----3-------]
G[--0--------] G[--2---------]
D[--0--------] D[----3-------]
A[--2--------] A[--2---------]
E[---3-------] E[--x---------]
3 2 1 1 2 3 4=pinky

Hope this helps.
P:s mabee someone else can add to this thread?
Substitution is a mainstay in Jazz.
Srv did use some substitution chords in his blues playing

I'll give you an exsample of an octave style Below:
This is not a strumming type style.
I would call this a Wes Montgomery style of useing,
octaves in riffs licks ect.
This Position could be used in the intro to (Something) by the,
Beatles.Plus used in Jazz,Blues,Rock,New Country ect.

Use the index finger on 7 use the pinky on 10
E[-------------------]
B[-------10----------] Strike the 7 note,
G[-------------------] and open G plus the 10
D[----7--------------] note at the same time,
A[-------------------] useing a fast Down stroke.
E[-------------------]
1 4

Note: The first note on the D string is an (A) note.
the note on the B string is also an (A) note.
Thats what makes it an octave.<-layman terms
This position could also be moved down to the D string,
useing the index finger then placeing the pinky on the high
E string. You could also use the index finger or the pinky,
finger as a guide to what keys you want to use it in.
You can play octaves or octave styles all over the fingerboard,
by useing other left hand fingerings or positons.
You also can use a pick and finger style with the two,
notes.
Note: Experiment with this position all over the, fingerboard.

Mark
Sorry about not getting back to you right away but had to,
play 3 nites over the weekend.

Sometimes, yes, people got sick of the same thing they played. What about the others? Probably, they will too. So, I have experienced this kind of situations before how to not make it boring. So, like some of them have posted what should we do in order we don't get boring and get other people boring for what we are going to play. There are many issue of boring, maybe it is the chords progressions and used chords, or maybe it is the scales or maybe it is the tempo of that music, or maybe the drum makes it boring or the bass line etc etc...
Talking about chords that make us sick or maybe always the same thing, there are many ways which you can maximized the chords of blues and what you will play with this chords.Since you know 9th chords, 7th chords, and many other chords... i think you are actually there but seldom people think that blues can play with it. Utilizes everything that you know about chords. Say, the 5th, 6th note can be used for blues scales and even the dimished chords can be used for blues scales. Actually there are many than what I have known. Say, this is in one of Garry More's track, Am-AminMaj7-Amin6, Amin5.... in between this time of frame, you can play play blues scale plus with some harmonic minor scales. This also requires you to master scales not only in blues, but other useful scales which can be fit into all kinds of chords. Creative Blues people always utilizes all kinds of scales they know that can fit into any kind of chords. It is a mistake when you stick into one type of scales and styles of playing. Remeber this, all the roots of rock, metal, punk... all is being improvise from BLUES which is the actuall father of rock and roll and to all other branch of rocks. Sorry if it is too long and no tab included, and we have to do is open our mind and play what ever we want anytime and any mood. This is just a word of motivations and not instructions, thank you.

I can't belive you guys did'nt catch the strings in the,
wrong order on the octave tab.sorry about that .(grin
I fixed the tab!Anyway the strings were EAGDBE<-WRONG
HA HA i guess it would have looked like i was useing ,
another tuning,Which i'm not for the open strings.
We should all know that from low E to high E-> (EADGBE)
when useing a standard tuning.(sorry about the tab)

Mark
I think i was have asleep when i put it up.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
P:S Emmanuel79 is right about the Blues was before Rock.
Really if you slow some rock licks down then use some vibrato, you have the blues.
Another thing is that alot of guitarests get stuck in,
1 or 2 scale modes and get in a rut by staying in those,
same old box positions.
You should use all the scale modes for Rock&Blues,Jazz, ect,
where you can play all over the fingerboard for each key.

hmmm i didnt notice the letters by the strings but it's good you fixed it anyway :)
the problem with blues is that it's hard to do something original, and to stay in the frame of the blues without advancing to rock, that's maybe because of the scales problem in blues, i mean you can use lots of scales but most of the blues guys use only blues and pentatonic scales
i'm sure that people like SRV never heard about modes in their whole life

Really i did'nt get into theory until after i played,
about ten years .I only got into it for teaching guitar,
plus to find out what i was really doing on the guitar.
as far as the modes i found out after getting into theory,
i was playing out of all the modes by ear.
Which i still use my ear i don't really think of scales,
or modes i just play music.
And as far as i know SRV also did'nt play by scales he just,
played the blues.
