Hey, been looking for a portable 8 track, maybe even a 4 track. I know that Tascam is a great brand name and have seen some 8 tracks here:

http://www.used.forsale/tascam-portastudio

Anyone got any thoughts on these, the Tascam portable 4 track is less fancy but is even more portable for recording anywhere.

Just want something for writting on the move really, I can add effects afterwards and haven't really got any really good microphones which I know I really should get too. Perhaps some advice on 1 good mic to get would be useful too. Not too expensive though!!

Many thanks

The portastudio is legendary. I had a cassette 4 track portastudio until I was able to do this stuff on my computer.

I have 2 Tascam digital recorders...a DR-70 and DR-05. I've had the DR-05 for 8 years or so...I got it when it first came out, and it's great. The DR-70 is technically for recording audio along with video on a DSLR camera. I use it to record 4 tracks out of my mixer when I'm playing out.

Overall I'm happy with Tascam products. The DR-70 was rough in the beginning because it is very particular about the memory card you use with it, other than that it's awesome.

I suspect any portastudio you choose will work well for you.

Thanks for the advice :) I have ordered the DP-004, it's very small and i'll have to add effects afterwards but that could be a good thing anyway.

It also takes batteries so I can take it anywhere.

Cheers

I have the Tascam as well......it's not enough that we need to work hard on our chops and theory and get creative and write out (tab) original song ideas as well...........we also need to master or at least get proficient and set up our own little recording studios.......these Tascams (I have the DP-008) do take out quite a bit of the mystery or struggle but since I used to always have the old Mini Studio Tascam with cassettes........which were bulky and disorganized.......I could at least keep "track" on what I've already recorded and separate.......I keep over dubbing on recordings with the DP-008. I could use a better tutorial or at least tips on how to use this thing like a no big deal tool it's supposed to be......and I'm certain it is!! Jim C.

Luckily i bought a camcorder. I think they are quite portable camcorder . I bought Canon Vixia HF R700. From weight wise it is pretty manageable just under 250 grams. Lcd is pretty good 3 inches and 3.28MP. I think it is pretty good and helpful for someone like me who is just starting out.

Look for Zoom H4N. Amazing quality and very versatile.[br]https://musicsquare.co.uk/119616g_PA-Live-Sound-Equipment-Recorders-.html[br]https://www.sweetwater.com/c1006--Portable_Recorders[br]https://www.gear4music.com/Audio_Recorders/Handheld
