Guitar Tricks Forum > Songwriting > Software for notation/tabs?
I am just getting into songwriting and was wondering what kind of free or low cost software is best for putting together compositions in tab and notation, lyrics, chords, etc. I tried searching the forum for answers but couldn't find anything, so hopefully I'm in the right department in asking this...
I did find Muse Score and it appears that may be the best free one? I heard Guitar Pro was good too, for a cost, but I'm looking for something that will be the most user friendly for a beginner.
Thanks for any info. I want to write for both the guitar and the ukulele.

Muse score is one of the best free programs. There is also flat.io which has a free entry level option.
Hope that helps!

Thank you! I will use MuseScore. :D I'm thankful there are so many good tutorials out there for it. (Some better than others, but still....it's nice people make them!)

I was wondering if you were successful with Musescore in what you wanted to do. I am trying to create a score that is similar to the one in this Guitar tricks tutorial:

using Musiescore but having a hard time. Any help, pointers is appreciated.

Exactly what are you having trouble with? The online handbook is pretty thorough. For example, if you search for tablature you get this page.

There are also quite a few helpful how to videos on YouTube. For example:

Hope that helps!

I know that many people prefer using MusicScore, but I'm more than pleased with ScanScore https://scan-score.com/en/. This is the newest music scanning software that offers excellent value for money. Plus they have incorporated the use of your tablet or phone from the ground up. It is great not only for music notation but also for quick playback or transposing your sheet music.
