Hello, everybody. It's been long since I asked you guys a question. :D

To keep things short, I'm writing song now, a small project of mine, where I'm both rhythm and lead for simple rock band, nothing fancy nothing major.

My question is when writing a solo: I find myself always referring back to pentatonic scale while writing solos, in other cases major or minor natural scales. Are there any other scales I should use?

Bonus question: do you have any tips for me on writing solos?

I really would appreciate your insight on this.

[br] Thank you. :)

Major & minor diatonic & pentatonic cover most of what you need to use to play melodies & solos.

I've done a lot of tutorials on learning to improvise. The basic idea is to find the key, target chord tones of the chord progression & create a melody.

After you learn the basics, then the most important thing to do is to build a repertoire of licks & tricks that you can use to have a vocabulary of things to play.

Chris, I swear you're the best person on the face of Earth, I swear!

It is a fun project, I can't even begin to describe the happiness while I'm recording, and now I have even more reasons to get better and better.

Good news is, I am doing more or less what you're saying, although sometimes I find a bit tricky to find the key, especially it's random strumming but eventually turn into a nice tune.

I'll check all those links you've posted, and of course the rest of your lessons.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you forever and after man.

[p]That's great!

Those tutorials will help you identify the key signature. And when you find a chord that doesn't fit, there are lessons on how to handle that situation.

You're welcome for the links. Have a great time playing guitar!
