Hi I’m just after some advice,[br]this chord progression seems to work to my ear but want to know if I’m missing anything obvious[br]it’s for a folk/bluesy slow ballad type song[br] [br]all in minor chords[br] 4/4 60bpm[br]Verse[br]/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /[br] Em Bm. Em. Bm. X 7

/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

am. Em. B7. Em. X 1

[br]chorus[br]/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /[br]Am. Em. B7. Em. X 2

[br] Any thoughts would be appreciated [br]thanks in advance

Those chord functions work well.

Key is Em

verse

i - v - i - v

iv - i - V7 - i

Chorus

iv - i - V7 - i

Harmony fits to a minor key and dominant (v/V7) is always resolved to a one (i) chord. Nice.

Thank for the reply

I was just a bit concerned that the 7 bars of em to Bm were too repetitive

If it is only a strumming chords, then 7x can be too repetative. But I assume you have a melody/words as well. You can avoid the repetative feeling by rhythmic variations while chord progression stays the same.

good point, it’s finger picked and the vocal melody seems to sit well with it.

thanks for your vote of confidence I can carry on with it happily now :)
