Singing
Hey I've been playing guitar for about 5-6 years now and can basically play anything I want. I just started to try to sing along as I play, but I can't do the two at the same time and its really pissing me off, how do I fix this?

start with something simple, like a song with just chords and easy lyrics. i would reccomend "louie louie" cause it has like 3 chords. you might also try those things where you
rub your stomach and pat your head, to learn 2 things at once. i know what your talking about cause my friend has the same problem.

Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess was why several of us died of tuberculosis.

Yeah, try some simple stuff first. One option is to sort of just talk over the chords instead of singing for now. Heck, some songs are based on this approach anyway. That's pretty much how I play and sing Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side." Just talk those lyrics over C-F and then do your best with the doo-doo-doo-doo-doo parts. One problem I have is that I tend to strum to the beat of the lyrics, instead of strumming to a more regular beat. I think this "talking blues" thing helps with that.

chew gum and walk at the same time.
Actually i dont know, i've never had that problem, i've been playing for 16 months or so and have been able to sing and play at the same time since about month 2. i guess im what they call an "Omnibus"

Start off real slow with really dumb songs....
Row Row Row your Boat etc......
Separate your thoguht process to so you know the guitar player so automatically, that the vocals are easy.
Do 'air guitar' to a well known song until you know it back to front.... then learn how it's played and develop your own style gradually.
The best bet also, is to take CD's and try to figure out how the guitarist is playing.

Ya I have that problem with some songs. But what I do is I just do it over and over again and try not to focus on much on what I'm singing but just singing. I don't know.
