I've been learning the major scale modes, basically by running up and down each mode to commit to memory. I'd now like to incorporate these into solos etc. but seem to have got into a pattern of moving up and down the scales.

I'm looking for some licks and ideas to take this to the next level.

Couple ideas that might help...try playing the scales and modes in intervals....1-3-2-4-3-5-4-6-5-7-6-8-7-9-8...then back down...or 4th's or 5th's...this will give you a lot of different sounds and mix things up a bit.
Another idea is to record a certain progression with a tape recorder....then practive improving different scales over the same progression...hope that helps.
